Radiant sunshine illuminated the towering snowy mountains, as icicles shivered in the frigid wind. I went up the hill, and then exhilaratingly sledged down...This was just one of the unforgettable moments I experienced during my time in Germany. Granted the opportunity to participate in an exchange programme, I went to a Round Square school named Birklehof in southwestern Germany for about a month in February. I was exceedingly fortunate to experience both homestay and dormitory life. From attending lessons to visiting museums, hiking to sledging, I was exposed to many different kinds of activities. Despite the fact that the majority of lessons were conducted in German, I was able to actively engage and strive to mitigate any cultural disparities.
This exchange programme is not merely an eye-opening cultural exposure, but also a journey for growth. Not only did I forge international friendships, I also took the responsibility of introducing Hong Kong, giving the students there a captivating glimpse of oriental culture. It was equally rewarding to host my exchange buddy, Victor, in Hong Kong. Immersing a foreigner in the busy Hong Kong's lifestyle has never been a simple task. Yet, through exercising patience in explaining social norms, I was able to view this vibrant city from a refreshed perspective.
Overall, this unique programme has significantly expanded my horizons, transforming me into a person who can courageously weather adversity and hardship. I would like to seize this opportunity to express my gratitude to the school for facilitating this experience, and to all those who guided me through this extraordinary journey.
