Homework is a dreaded time in our house…I’m guessing most houses actually. Personally, I think homework should be done away with but that’s a rant for another day 😉

So a few months ago I was contacted by The Homework Box to try out their product. As you can probably guess it is a box with many tools to help kids with their homework.
This is an idea and business by 2 Irish mums who were frustrated like so many of us with the task of homework with kids. I love to bring attention to mum businesses especially ones here in Ireland .
There are a few variations of The Homework Box with various contents included all depending on the class your child/children are in.
-Junior & Senior Infant box (€49.25)
-1st & 2nd Class box (€49.25)
-3rd & 4th class box (€49.25)
-Combo box, a mix between two boxes (€66.50-€78.10)
-Combo box, all 3 boxes in one (€99.80)
Also good to note, everything in the boxes is also sold separately so you could buy the Junior-senior box to start off and build on as you need, this is what I would do I think
The ladies were really thoughtful and sent a mixed box because I have one in Junior Infants, one is 1st class and eldest in 6th class. If you ask them they can help make a box to suit your needs, I really love that.

My eldest daughter has struggled with the concept of maths over the years and I am not good at explaining maths at all, so had I known what I know now, I would have loved this box for those earlier years. It could have saved a lot of frustrated tears from us both when trying to explain. (No really, I’m crap at maths and explaining it is difficult for me!?) I’m so glad I have these tools at home now to help me, help my younger kids with their homework over the coming years.

We have been using and loving the homework box since we got it. The fraction circles set has been very useful for the eldest in 6th class, it’s something I wish I’d thought of getting years ago had I know about them ago. The great thing is I know it will come in handy for the younger kids when they are older and learning about fractions.
Absolutely love the wipable boards because it allowed for the eldest to do rough work on it to work out maths problems. And the letter and number formation boards have been helpful to my junior infant in learning to write, even little Bill (age 2) has been using them haha!
The Linking cubes have been great for the youngest to explain maths/counting and have also come in handy for my son in 1st class.
The plastic coins have also been very helpful for my son in 1st Class to understand money too.
As you can see my kids from Junior Infants right up to 6th class have all been getting use out of the box.
They also popped in a set of timers which I think are sold separately but I loved those as I like to put a time limit on homework. It’s great for a limit on the amount of time they spend doing maths or learning spellings. It also gives the younger ones a better concept of time!
Price
Prices of the boxes are from €49.99 for the regular boxes to €78.10 for the combo of all 2 boxes. I was taken aback at the price to be completely honest. I was reluctant to take a ‘freebie’ for review knowing how expensive it was but as I looked more and more at their site I could see the appeal and I said I would try it.
Since reviewing it and seeing how much is in it and how useful it is for all primary school classes I can see the worth to make homework time easier.
I know you could buy all the stuff separate from elsewhere probably but I love the convenience of it all being in the one sturdy and compartmentalised box. I have it on a shelf in the toy room and it comes out when they are all sitting down to do their homework. It makes homework a bit more fun/interactive for them and it makes it much easier for me to explain things to them. It has everything you need to make homework a bit more manageable at home. I’m recommending it now to everyone who has a child starting school.
Also as I said above you could buy the junior-senior infant box to start off with and then buy the add on bits as and when you need them! The box alone to have is handy and you can add your own bits. I think that is what I would do if starting, get the cheaper box and then add on as you need, though that might work out more expensive so it would be worth pricing!
