A surprising 1 in 10 Irish people have a gluten intolerance. This coming week from 3rd March while stocks last, Lidl will have some tasty gluten free foods on offer at great prices. Mainly they are from Irish made food brand Kelkin. Lidl also do their own freshly baked gluten free multiseed bread which is available daily in stores for just €1.99.
I got to try some of the Kelkin Gluten Free foods which range from foods for breakfast right through to that after dinner chocolate snack or beer!
There is a great range cereals to suit everyone’s taste. They also have corn flakes (not pictured) My favourite was the Buckwheat flakes with apple and coconut.
The pasta range was nice too, I’m more of a brown rice/pasta kinda person but I made the above for the kids for lunch…with some peas in there….gotta get them veggies in, they scoffed the lot though 🙂 I’m looking forward to making a gluten free lasagna too! I love my pasta so I will try to incorporate gluten free more often just to be healthier as I know it prob doesn’t help my IBS.
Ahhh bread…this is my biggest enemy! I shouldn’t eat bread, it really doesn’t agree with me so I try to eat wholegrain breads. This one is a multiseed sourdough bread and of course gluten free. I was surprised at how tasty this one was. It was really soft too and I made myself a yummy ham & cheese toastie! The packs contain 6 very large slices and cost €2.99
There is also lots of yummy goodies in the gluten free range. Raspberry or orange jaffa cakes, chocolate/yoghurt covered rice cakes & plain ones too, caramel rice cake thins, tea cakes, cookies & chocolate fingers!
Lastly there will be gluten free beer, a 4 pack for €7.99. No idea what this would taste like but if anyone’s tried it let me know!
All the above and more is available in Lidl this coming Monday 3rd March 2014 while stocks last. Go to their site to see the full range on their online brochure here
