I’ve been trying to get my 2 year old more interested in books and letting me read to her. See, she rarely sits and engages when I’m reading to the older ones. She normally starts flicking the pages before I’ve read it and flings the book across the room much to the annoyance of the older two kids. Please tell me I’m not alone in that?!
Anyway, a few months ago at a blogger conference there was a Freddy Buttons book in the goodie bags. I read it to the kids that night and the 2-year-old was actually intrigued with the easy to follow story and colourful pictures to go with it. Every day after that she wanted me to read it to her and she sat relatively still for a 2-year-old while I read and talked through the pictures. I was chuffed!
So when the company actually contacted me to review the full set I was delighted. Faith I tell ya!
Who is Freddy Buttons?
Freddy Buttons is an 8-year-old boy who lives at Tumbledown Cottage with his parents and dog Juno.
He loves school and growing his own fruit and vegetables.
Himself and his animal friends, The FBI aka The Freddy Buttons Investigators, investigate different mysteries around his home, garden and school.
The books are written by Irish (whooo) food blogger & author Fiona Dillon. She’s also mother to 4 kids!
Also, you might recognise the little character from Glenisk packs as they do promotions with them for free books when you collect tokens.
As I said above the 2-year-old loves the pictures that accompany the story. She really gets into the whole story, with her ‘ooooh’s’ & ‘ahhhs’ while pointing out things in the pictures to me, it’s so lovely to see. And just tonight she fell asleep looking at the pictures and telling the story to herself! Cuteness and yay, she went asleep without me!
The 9 and 5-year-old love the books too and often read them to the youngest, again so lovely to see. It’s amazing how much kids love a good book to relax and unwind with.
My favourite parts of the books are at the back where there is fun & interesting facts and also an easy recipe for kids on whatever the topic of the book was.
We are delighted with the books as they are something different from the usual fairy tales. They get kids interested in foods, how they grow and wanting to help out with the cooking 😉 Bonus is it helps the relax and sleep too!
The books can be bought individually or as a set for €25, see here for more details.
