What’s the one thing you wish you’d taken the plunge on and got sooner?
Mine? A dryer!
I finally got one three weeks and it’s literally been love since first use!
I was sick of having to spend hours hanging wet clothes up ever so damn neatly to avoid ironing, then fold them neatly, air them in the hot press, sort into everyone’s rooms and repeat, every damn day.
From washing machine to drawer it would take 2-3 days as the clothes took so long to dry. I’m talking trying to dry sheets, towels, jeans, ALL THE FIDDLY FUCKING SOCKS AND UNDERWEAR for 6 people! One day makes up 12 socks, 6 sets of clothes….. 2 days is 24 socks and 12 outfits and so on. Oh and don’t get me started in the 157393 bibs!
So if I missed just one day of washing and hanging up stuff, that was it, I was completely behind…so behind to the point I’d cry into the baskets of wet washing to hang up. Himself would get so fed up with me moaning about the washing he’d get a bag and bring it to the laundrette haha!
Oh, and the washing hung up all over the house was an eyesore! Clothes all over the radiators, clothes horse, banisters, chairs, doors and anywhere I could find space. It can’t be good for your lungs either all that wet air?! I refuse to dry clothes outside because of spiders, can’t be dealing with the fear of finding a spider in the laundry.
But now…now I have my new boo. I call him Tumble McDryer, it’s male because the world doesn’t need another woman doing the washing…equality and all that! He takes the wet clothes and dries them in a couple of hours. I can get 2-3 loads of washing washed, dried and folded in a day! It means I can take two even three days off from the washing knowing I can catch up so quick! I don’t spend hours at the weekend doing washing like I used to, it’s great, it makes me so happy!
I’m slightly worried about the electricity bill but you know what, even if it was €30 extra a month it would be worth it for my sanity and I get to spend more time with the kids and not stressing over trying t dry clothes on time for school or everyday wear. No more money going to the laundrette either!
Actually, I got a bill there a few days ago and it was €50 more than the previous one. That’s down to Christmas lights and all the extra cooking etc over Christmas more than likely so I don’t think I’ll see much of a difference with the dryer. I made sure to get a heat pump technology dryer as they use less energy and are more gentle n clothes (less shrinkage apparently). The dryer I got has an is A+ energy rating too, all the heat pump technology ones are minimum A+ energy rating so I was told.
So yeh, the dryer was well worth the nearly €500 for my sanity, our lungs and family time. Life’s too short to be spending hours drying clothes! I really really wish I’d got one years ago now, so if you’re on the fence and have been thinking of getting one ad how handy it would be, JUST DO IT! You won’t regret it!
